So Emmy is like a Mary Sue then huh? An easy but also lame way to make it possible that Emmy is getting a leading position. Now you only have to make it so, that she kills this Dark presence out of nowhere and we have the perfect example.
I don’t think she’s a Mary Sue. I think she just has a very kind, creative, philosophical and determined spirit, and she understands that there can be no light without darkness, no order without chaos, no warmth without cold, no life without death, no good without evil, etc.
To make it easy she understands that the world is more grey than black and white, but why only she has this knowledge and not the advanced elders? These persons have infinite time for research and yet they even never came up with the hypocritic that the grey is better? (That same problem had the Jedi too faering the dark, but never truly looking how far they can go into the Dark)
The simple reason is the other Star Warriors are all adults. Emmy died as a kit. She still has yet to develop the adult mindset. The lack of questioning everything because she is still a child and is open to ideas, such as her refusal to forget her past. The adults say memories weaken them. Emmy is actually proving that memories are a strength if used correctly. Look to her mother, who she named Miracle, she is disliked by the Elders because she too thinks outside the box but she may have stepped too far outside to be able to be accepted. Emmy uses her memories to strengthen her resolve and enhances her own star power with it, granting her the ability to resist the dark matter’s tainting influences.
I mean, that doesn’t address the fact that she’s doing something that literally no one else has been able to do in…I don’t know, countless millennia, I guess? However long the Starwarriors have been around. I mean, to be honest, none of this makes any sense at all. She’s able to overcome the darkness because “We’re all bad people deep inside”? Because they kill to survive? That sounds more like a villain’s justification than a reason to overcome The Dark Side or whatever.
People keep comparing this to being a Grey Jedi but like, the Starwarriors aren’t forcing their members to stifle their emotions or devote themselves eternally to some dogmatic doctrine. The Starwarriors are still themselves, they’re just fighting against a force of evil. Something that corrupts anything and everyone it comes into contact with. Again, something that, apparently, no one has ever overcome, and yet, somehow this child has the Strength of Heart or whatever to beat it? And no other Elite Starwarrior that is invited to join this Divine Celestial Cause has ever been good enough or whatever to think of the same thing? It just doesn’t make any sense.
THAT’S why people are calling her a Mary Sue. This is her very first mission and she’s already doing the absolute impossible, and her justification for it doesn’t make any sense. Even if it did, what are the stakes now? She’s not only overcome the corruption, but she’s impervious to it now as well? So why should I even care?
I’m super happy you caught onto something in the comic, while I can’t tell you what that is yet, all I can say is very well done. ^^
The definition of a Mary Sue is a character who’s only purpose is as an Author-avatar protagonist who succeeds at everything as a means of wish-fulfillment-by-proxy.
